आयुवर्चोभिवर्धिस्च सिद्धिर्व्य वहरतेस्तथा।

इन दोनों प्रयोजनों के लिए सचमुच एक उत्सव के रूप में ही नामकरण की आवश्यकता है अपने स्वजन सम्बन्धी गुरुजन एवं मित्रों की उपस्तिथि में इस संस्कार का विधान है इसका अभिप्राय यही है कि उन सबकी उपस्तिथि में नाम रखने से अधिक से अधिक लोगों में नाम प्रसिद्ध हो जायेगा और लोग उसे जल्दी ही जान जाएंगे वह समस्त एकत्रित सज्जनों की शुभ कामनाएं ओर आशीर्वाद का पात्र बनेगा जो उसके दीर्घायु में सहायक होगी। अधिक से अधिक जनता में नाम की ख्याति तथा प्रियता तेजस्विता का लच्छड़ है इसलिए मनुजी ने नामकरण संस्कार द्वारा आयु और तेज की व्रद्धि बतलाई गई है संस्कार का दूसरा उद्देश्य व्यवहार सिद्धि कहा गया है।सांसारिक व्यवहार संचालनार्थ प्रत्येक बालक का कुछ न कुछ तो नाम रखना पड़ेगा ही । यदि माता ने विधिपूर्वक कोई नामकरण न किया तब भी लोग या तो जन्म वार की कल्पना से मंगलू, बुद्धू,वीरू आदि,या जन्मतिथि के अनुसार ग्यारसा,पुन्नू,दोजीराम आदि ओर नही तो साधारण रूपेण मुन्ना काका आदि कुछ न कुछ रख ही लेंगे।परन्तु इससे न तो किसी एक नाम का निश्चय होगा न बालक को कोई निश्चय नाम ही सकेगा, कोई उसे बुद्धू कहेगा कोई तो कोई कूड़ामल।इन सब झंझटों से बचने के लिए क्या यह अधिक उपयुक्त न होगा कि एक निश्चित समय पर बालक का यथाविधि नामकरण संस्कार किया जाय।
